Julien obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry of Polymers and Colloids from Sorbonne Université and ESPCI Paris, where he conducted his doctoral research at the SIMM laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Perrin and Dr. Nicolas Sanson. From 2020 to 2024, he pursued postdoctoral research in the Polymer Science group led by Prof. Kamperman at the University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), in the Netherlands. Inspired by natural systems, his research focused on the design and engineering of advanced materials based on complex coacervation, including tissue adhesives, tough hydrogels for soft electronics, 3D-printable bio-inks, and responsive micelles and emulsifiers.

In 2025 and 2026, Julien joined the Biofabrication and Bio-instructive Materials group at Silesian University of Technology, Poland, led by Prof. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun, as an Assistant Professor. There, he further developed microgel-based 3D-printable bio-inks for the fabrication of realistic disease tissue models. In 2026, Julien joined the LCPO as a CNRS researcher, where his work draws inspiration from the processing pathways of natural structural materials to develop functional hydrogels with controlled composition and nano- to micro-scale architecture.
