The objective of this project is the synthesis and functionalization of multifunctional macromolecules possessing a polypeptide-like biosourced backbone, poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA). The γ-PGA is a natural biopolymer composed of repeating units of L-glutamic acid, D-glutamic acid, or both. The γ-PGA can exhibit different properties (conformational states, enantiomeric properties and molecular weight). Due to its biodegradable, non-toxic and non-immunogenic properties, it has been successfully used in the food, medical and wastewater treatment industries.
